(NewMediaWire) – August 31, 2021 – DALLAS – Ashutosh P. Jadhav, M.D., Ph.D., FAHA, FSVIN, has been selected as the inaugural editor-in-chief of Stroke: Vascular and Interventional Neurology, the new Open-Access journal jointly published by American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association, and the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology.

Announced in October 2020, the new peer-reviewed scientific journal will be produced bi-monthly, available online-only and all papers will be Open Access. Manuscripts are being accepted for the first issue publishing in November 2021 and will focus on reporting clinical, translational and basic sciences research on interventional, endovascular, medical and surgical management of stroke and vascular disease of the brain, spinal cord, and head and neck. Imaging, video illustrations, case reports, innovative technique, angiographic anatomy, clinicopathological correlation, medical devices, technical advances and review papers are also welcomed.

“I am excited to be at the helm of this new journal at a time when the field of vascular and interventional neurology is growing exponentially with innovations in new procedures and treatments,” Jadhav said. “My vision is for the journal to be the premier destination for the latest, state-of-the-art research studies and an important platform for researchers and clinicians to share their findings focused on vascular care.”

Jadhav is a vascular and interventional neurologist at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. His expertise includes the medical and endovascular care of patients who have had a stroke, and he is board certified in neurology and vascular neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His research interests include treatment approaches and patient outcomes after a stroke due to large-vessel occlusion, workflow optimization in the acute stroke population and endovascular device development.

Jadhav earned his medical degree from the Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology in Boston and his Ph.D. in genetics from Harvard University. He completed his neurology residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and his fellowship in vascular neurology and interventional neurology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Jadhav has been an active member of several societies, including the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association, where he serves on the Stroke Council and recently served as the section editor for interventional treatments for the Stroke journal. He also serves on the board of directors for the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology. Additionally, Jadhav has previously served as an associate editor for several journals including the Journal of Neuro-Interventional Neurosurgery, Frontiers in Neurology and Stroke and Vascular Neurology.

Jadhav has published over 250 articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. He served as the local principal investigator on eight global clinical trials (ARISE II, Atlas, DAWN, Escape-NA1, Rhapsody, STRATIS, Tiger and Trevo Registry) and as a sub-investigator on more than a dozen additional clinical trials.

“We are proud to support the growing field of vascular and interventional neurology by partnering with the Society for Vascular and Interventional Neurology to publish this exciting new journal. We anticipate that Stroke: Vascular and Interventional Neurology will rapidly become the forum for the best research in the field,” said Mitchell S.V. Elkind, M.D., M.S., FAAN, FAHA, immediate past president of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. “Publication of the highest quality, peer-reviewed studies in this field is integral to ensuring the latest advances reach clinicians and researchers so we can continue provide the latest techniques and treatments, leading to improved outcomes and quality of life for our patients.”

“The new Stroke: Vascular and Interventional Neurology journal will enhance our continuing efforts to educate and rapidly communicate newfound lessons that affect the stroke and endovascular field,” said David S. Liebeskind, M.D., FAHA, FAAN, FWSO, FSVIN, president of the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology. “In collaboration with the American Stroke Association, this new journal allows us the opportunity to chronicle, and more importantly, foster continued scientific research in the field of neuro-intervention.”
