(NewMediaWire) – February 02, 2023 – NEW YORK CITY — Powerful voices across music, entertainment, fashion and philanthropy joined with the American Heart Association, a global force for healthier lives for all, to share their personal connections to cardiovascular disease, celebrate achievements and call for continued action in the drive for women’s heart health in a fashion-forward, musical kick off to American Heart Month.
The Red Dress Collection® Concert—originating this year from the Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City—serves as the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement national marquee event. It is a musical evolution of the beloved 20-year Red Dress Collection fashion show founded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s The Heart Truth® program.
This year’s concert was headlined by American music icon and new Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominee Sheryl Crow, who returned to the Red Dress Collection red carpet for the second time. The nine-time Grammy Award winner was introduced by Nina Hamlin, mom of NFL player Damar Hamlin who suffered cardiac arrest on the field in January. Between chart-topping favorites including “All I Wanna Do,” “Soak Up The Sun” and “First Cut is the Deepest,” Crow talked to the audience like an old friend while sharing quips about her career and life, including how she recently learned CPR after her two sons asked her to as a direct result of witnessing Hamlin’s event.
Internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Rita Ora opened the concert for a cause performing her newly released single “You Only Love Me” from her upcoming album alongside hits “I Will Never Let You Down” and “Let You Love Me,” which have helped her reach more than 10 billion streams and earn the most Top 10 singles by a British female artist in UK history.
Presenters Elisabeth Rohm (actress/director, American Hustle), Star Jones (lawyer/TV personality, Divorce Court) and Susan Lucci (actress, All My Children) recognized survivors and cardiovascular champions, while sharing their own heartfelt experiences with cardiovascular disease.
The national 2023 Go Red for Women Real Women Class of Survivors made their formal debut at the star-studded concert, while members from the 2021 and 2022 national survivor classes cheered them on from the audience. Due to the pandemic, many of these inspiring women—now close friends—met in real life for the first time at this year’s event.
Holding true to the Red Dress Collection’s origin, red haute couture moments were infused throughout the show, which framed a hopeful tone of empowerment amid a sobering reality that cardiovascular disease remains the No. 1 cause of death for women nationwide, claiming more lives than all forms of cancer combined.
Other stars of stage and screen lending their support to the event included:
Amanda Warren (actress, Gossip Girl, Dickenson), Anika Noni Rose (actress, The Princess and the Frog), Ashley Greene (actress, Twilight), Cara Buono (actress, Stranger Things), Chrishell Stause (actress, Selling Sunset), Danielle Moné Truitt (actress, Law & Order: Organized Crime), DJ Kiss (DJ, Pharrell Williams’s tour DJ for a year), Dylan Dreyer (TV personality, TODAY SHOW), Folake Olowofoyeku (actress, Bob Hearts Abishola), Gina Gershon (actress, PS I Love You), Ginger Gonzaga (actress, She Hulk), India de Beaufort (actress, Night Court 2023), Kyle Richards (TV personality, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills); Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (actress, Never Have I Ever), Melba Moore (singer, Official Rhythm & Blues Music Hall of Fame), Melissa Fumero (actress, Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Paulina Alexis (actress, Reservation Dogs), Phoebe Robinson (comedian, 2 Dope Queens), Teri Hatcher (actress, Desperate Housewives) and Tisha Campbell (actress/singer, My Wife and Kids).

About Go Red for Women
The American Heart Association’s signature initiative, Go Red for Women®, is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally. While the majority of cardiac events can be prevented, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, claiming the lives of 1 in 3 women. For 19 years, Go Red for Women has encouraged awareness. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power of women to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. It challenges them to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives them tools they need to lead a heart healthy life. The Go Red for Women movement is nationally sponsored by CVS Health, with additional support from national cause supporters.
