New value-focused network option being offered by Regence BlueShield of Idaho and St. Luke’s Health Partners for 2021

(NewMediaWire) – October 15, 2020 – BOISE – The next phase of health care transformation for Idahoans is being launched by Regence BlueShield of Idaho and St. Luke’s Health Partners (SLHP).

The comprehensive new SLHP network will be available starting Jan. 1, 2021, for Regence individual members enrolled on or off the Your Health Idaho Exchange as well as for small group employers. SLHP will serve Regence members across 18 counties in Idaho, delivering care through more than 3,400 St. Luke’s and independent providers. Both organizations entered the new value-focused arrangement with a shared commitment to improve care coordination, data-sharing and analysis, and to deliver higher-quality, lower-cost patient care.

“This new value-focused arrangement represents a big step forward for Idaho health care consumers who count on us to drive high quality care and lower costs across our state” says Sean Robbins, Regence BlueShield of Idaho President. “And we are doing it the Idaho way – a collaboration between two nonprofit health care organizations founded and headquartered in Idaho to improve the health care experience for all those we serve.”

Regence’s leadership with value-based agreements (VBA) dates back to 2013, incentivizing provider payments based on quality versus quantity of care with the goal of improving member health, lowering overall costs and driving provider collaboration to achieve more efficient and effective care. In 2018, Regence BlueShield of Idaho members were able to take advantage of any of six value-based contracts, resulting in significant improvements in care outcomes and savings over more traditional provider payment models. Benefits included greater patient satisfaction and closure of care gaps. Additionally, there have been significant reductions in unnecessary patient admissions, costs, catastrophic spend and opioid prescriptions.
